Three Reasons
Reading the Bible is essential for every child of God for various reasons. However, today, I will focus on three reasons why.
It sets a standard for my life:
As children of God, we are called to live a different lifestyle that does not conform to worldly standards. Therefore, reading the Bible is of utmost importance as it helps us renew our minds (Romans 12:1-2) and transforms our thinking and behaviour. By immersing ourselves in the Word of God, we can gain a deeper understanding of His will and purpose for our lives and live accordingly. The Bible has practical teachings on how to live a life that pleases God, our Father. We read in Psalm 119:9, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word”. The Bible will make you wise in the standards of the Christian way of life.
It is food for my soul:
Food is essential for life; without food and water, we will die. The Apostle Peter reminds us in 1 Peter 2:2 that the Word of God is milk that we need to desire, just like a newborn baby craves milk so that we can grow spiritually. Jesus, when he was tempted in the wilderness, said, “It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
It comforts and gives me hope:
The Apostle Paul reminds us that “. through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope” (Romans 15:4). The Bible has real-life stories of individuals who lived the ups and downs of life, just like we do. And we can learn from their lived experiences and relationship with God. God promises comfort in challenging times, as David writes in Psalm 119:143: “Trouble and anguish have found me out, but your commandments are my delight”. God comforts you by reminding you who He is and all His promises.
As God’s Word, the Bible is sweeter than honey; it feeds your soul. It strengthens and comforts us in tough times, makes us wise, and teaches us how to live the Christian lifestyle.
What are your experiences with the Bible on your Christian journey? I would love to hear from you as we learn and journey together.
Blessings,
Mareli
