Being in Good Health

Are you in good health? what does it mean to be in good health? how does one get to be in good health?

According to health experts, eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly and getting enough sleep, all contribute to a healthier body. In addition, we are adviced not to stress too much, make time to relax and do some charity work as well.

However, on a more spiritual level, which is actually very practical, the Scriptures also have some advice on how to be in good health. We read in 3 John 1:2 “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (KJV).  So, a soul that is prosperous will bring about good health? what is a prosperous soul?  The word prosperous means successful and the word soul means your heart, soul, mind, depending on the context it is used in scriptures.  So, does it mean that if my mind prospers, my body will be healthy? for sure.

How does your soul prosper?

  • Renew your mind (Romans 12:1,2).
  • Take ungodly thoughts captive (2 Corinthians 5:10).
  • Be aware of the self-talk in your mind (Psalm 16:2, Psalm 42:5).
  • Be careful with what you meditate on.  (Philippians 4:8).
  • Be selective in what you allow in through your hearing and sight, on TV, the Internet, magazines and other people. (Isaiah 33:15)

Your soul, your heart, your mind, this is the place where seeds are planted and grow. Everything you think, say and do, originates in your innermost person, and is a result of what you have been subjecting yourself to in terms of your five senses. The seed you plant is the seed that will grow, an apple seed does not grow an orange tree, so, an evil thought will not bring about any good. A sick thought will not bring about a healthy mind and consequently, it will not bring about a healthy life.

Therefore, take some time to take stock of what is going on in your mind? what are you thinking about? what consumes your mind? what do you meditate on? what do you tell yourself? A good way of becoming aware is to note the words you speak because what you speak about is in your mind and heart.  We read in Luke 6:45  “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” (KJV).

Take one step today towards a healthy and prosperous mind and life.
