Dear children of God, I want to remind you that He is your Rock. Even in times of uncertainty and in responding to COVID-19.

David expresses strong emotions in Psalm 61 during a challenging time in his life. In verses 1 and 2, David describes how he felt at that moment to God.

Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth, I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

At that moment, it was as if he was alone (the ends of the earth is an image that describes isolation). The situation seemed too overwhelming to him. A sense of hopelessness, sadness, depression, heartache, desperation, overwhelm, and no energy filled his mind.

As a result, David needed a safe and secure place; he knew that God was his Rock. Symbolically, a rock represents a safe, high place above the waters of turmoil that threaten his life. In our contemporary world, we have a unique set of challenges and need safety and security, just like David did in ancient times.

Responding to COVID-19

Hence, today we are faced, amongst other challenges, with COVID-19. In these COVID-19 times, do you feel overwhelmed? I invite you to follow David’s example in responding to our present challenge. Cry out to God and trust Him as your sure and secure Rock in these uncertain times. And don’t struggle alone.

Find a counsellor or your pastor to help you work through the fear or other strong emotions.

Lord, we pray, “lead us to the Rock that is higher than I”. Thank you that You are our Rock, and you lead us to You when the waters of turmoil around us threaten to overwhelm us. You see each person’s heart and know how we all feel. So we surrender our lives and challenges to You and trust in the safety and security we have in You alone. In Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen”.

Blessings
